Who funds the initiative?

Funding is a three-way partnership between Government (the DCSF), local authorities, and the host sports club. Many centres also attract funding from local business sponsors. With the
support of the Football Foundation, PfS opportunities have been extended to a number of football clubs in Nationwide Divisions 2.

Playing for Success - funding levels 1 April 2008 - 31 March 2011

(a) Annual revenue costs are predicated on a total budget of £150,000 split three ways, with the Club's contribution usually in-kind.

(b) The revenue budget can be used to fund modest capital expenditure.

(c) If more significant capital expenditure is needed, for example for Centre relocation due to stadium redevelopment, this must be sought and allocated from within the LA's main capital budget for schools.

(d) Tapering of funding will end. This has affected Centres operating for 4+ years, in that the DCSF 100% grant of £50,000 has been reduced by £10,000. All Centres (but see note * below) will receive £25,000 through Standards Fund Grant 1.12 which must be matched, and £50,000 at the 100% rate (ie no matching requirement).

(e) An additional grant of £5,000 will be added to the 100% allocation for all Centres (making the 100% grant element £55,000 and the total DCSF grant £80,000). This is intended to support Open Week and the kinds of items supported by the former Quality Development & Sustainability Fund. It may also be used in respect of costs associated with QiSS recognition, or to support PfS developments such as Double Club or Sports College work .

(f) PfS funding is ring fenced within the Standards Fund for three years until March 2011. Please note that this ring fence is likely to apply to all LAs regardless of their performance rating but confirmation has not yet been received from Ministers.
